Here are my few finished prints for the emulation project. To be honest I am not pleased with my work. I set out to emulate George Inness but I did not succeed. Instead my work is very dark which is nothing like Inness. This style is a bit like Jacob van Ruisdael.

Emulation project: George Inness
For my emulation project I will be emulating George Inness. I decided to emulate him because I am interested in shooting more landscapes and that is his main topic. I hope to emulate the overall feel of his paintings.

More independent work
Other than my iPhone work I also experimented with color film for third quarter. These photos were taken with color negative film and then scanned onto a computer. Only minor adjustments like brightness and contrast were made, as well as spotting. These were all taken at Smith Rock State Park

Independent Research: iPhone Photography
Recently I have been experimenting taking photos with my iPhone. Over the years the quality of phone cameras has greatly increased. Currently the iPhone has one of the best cameras and can produce some really great images. There are also a number of apps that can assist in creating these images like "Camera+" and "Snapseed". Here are some iPhone images that inspired me.
Jimmy Mazur (Winning image of the 5th Annual iPhone Photography Awards)
Greg Schmigel (Pioneer in mobile photography who uses iPhone as main camera)

Book making inspiration
Here's some inspiration for the book I will be making based on the poem, "Morning" by Billy Collins, which is below:
BY BILLY COLLINS
Morning
Why do we bother with the rest of the day,
the swale of the afternoon,
the sudden dip into evening,
then night with his notorious perfumes,
his many-pointed stars?
This is the best—
throwing off the light covers,
feet on the cold floor,
and buzzing around the house on espresso—
maybe a splash of water on the face,
a palmful of vitamins—
but mostly buzzing around the house on espresso,
dictionary and atlas open on the rug,
the typewriter waiting for the key of the head,
a cello on the radio,
and, if necessary, the windows—
trees fifty, a hundred years old
out there,
heavy clouds on the way
and the lawn steaming like a horse
in the early morning.

Here is some inspiration I found for both of the assignments for this quarter where we are asked to relate words and images.
